The
Brattleboro Community Justice Center operates in collaboration
with the municipality, the Agency of Human Services, and the citizens
of Brattleboro in order to mend the fabric of human relationships.
Our
Mission Statement:
The
mission of the BCJC is to provide a forum for peaceful conflict
resolution. Through use of the BCJC, citizens will be empowered
to maintain community well-being by means of restorative justice
principles and practices.
We
currently provide services in the following areas:
- Conflict
Resolution:
- Community
Mediation
- Bi-monthly
workshops/training focusing on different tools and skills
for managing conflict –
free and open to the public
- Professional
Training in Managing Conflict,
Basic Mediation and Restorative Processes designed to meet
organizations individual training needs
- Restorative
Justice:
- Post-
Sentence Criminal (when the court sentences an offender
to a restorative justice process)
- Pre-
Charge (before the police file a charge
with the state’s attorney)
- Post-
Incarceration (when offender return from
prison to the community)
- Victim
Services (support provided to victims at any point in
the criminal justice process)
- Alternative
to Suspension and Expulsion (a local collaboration with
Brattleboro Union High School).
- Public
Forums:
- We
facilitate large group discussions regarding any issues
of concern for citizens in our community. Our facilitators
will help ensure that the conversations
are safe and productive.
