Reparative Panels

Reparative Panels are a form of community-sponsored probation that brings convicted offenders before a volunteer board of citizens as part of their sentencing process.

The panel works with offenders and their victims by exploring the following:

  • Who has been harmed?
  • What are their needs?
  • What needs to happen in order to repair the harm or begin to make things right?
  • What does the offender need to learn in order to avoid re-offending?

Offenders will form a contract with the panel that has him/her addressing the above questions. That contract must be completed within 90 days.

Victims are contacted by the BCJC and are invited to be a part of the process either through direct participation or by some other means that meets the victim's needs.

Reparative Panels meet monthly here at the Justice Center:

  • First Monday of the month from 12:00-2:00
  • First Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday of the month from 6:30-8:30
  • Second Friday of the month from 3:00-5:00

Quote of the Month

Of course I am obligated, by compassion and a common humanity, to help others. But this does not mean I should do for them what they ought to do for themselves. I have no right to deprive anyone else of the challenge to meet his own responsibility.
